For years Hoffman has been the go-to builder for the world’s leading maker of microprocessors. This industry leader (who prefers to remain confidential) calls on Hoffman repeatedly for our ability to build enormous microchip fabrication plants – or "fabs" – quickly, economically and safely.
In 1993 Hoffman started working on new projects for this client in New Mexico, and began a streak of over five million man-hours of work without a single lost-time accident. During this time we would work on projects including the giant 1.4 million SF Fab 11 and would manage a workforce that would swell to 3,200 people.
Hoffman achieved this by establishing a culture of safety on the jobsite; workers were organized into "safety teams" with "safety leaders." Responsibility was spread from foremen down through everyone on the site. With orientations and project-specific safety manuals, Hoffman made sure everyone knew what was expected of them. And Hoffman's safety professionals tracked every incident, even "near misses." Contractors who didn't make the grade were warned to shape up or lose the privilege of working on the site.
