Proton therapy is a newer, more targeted method of cancer treatment: it focuses radiation on tumors to spare the patient’s healthy tissue and reduce side effects. This 50,000 SF facility is the latest of several facilities ProCure has developed nationwide. The building used a heavyweight concrete structure to provide shielding for the sensitive radiation equipment, and is clad in stone, brick, and metal. Hoffman provided preconstruction services to adapt the template design to site-specific conditions. The project featured massive amounts of concrete, which had to be poured in a strict sequence to meet quality standards. We used Building Information Modeling (BIM) to manage the pour sequence, and to visually communicate work plans to stakeholders and workers. By creating this pour sequence early in the design process, Hoffman was able to visualize the schedule more accurately and communicate with stakeholders more effectively.
