Bringing Creative Construction Solutions to the Rugged Coast of Oregon

Camp Meriwether

Putting its commitment to community into action, Hoffman collaborated with the owner and architect to overcome the tight budget constraints facing this project. By utilizing creative value engineering ideas and fabricating various building elements off-site, Hoffman helped the owner achieve significant upgrades and improvments to the historic facility.

One of the only Scout camps to feature an ocean beach, Camp Meriwether’s 720-acre ocean-front site hosts nearly 3000 scouts each summer. Founded in 1926, the camp is located southwest of Tillamook, in the rugged coast range mountains. To accommodate delivery of materials to the remote site, Hoffman pioneered a new road into the camp, winding through rugged forested terrain at grades of over 13%. Timber harvested during road construction and site clearing was sold to help fund the project. The beautiful timber-framed dining hall includes a full kitchen capable of serving 500 people. The work also included a new outdoor amphitheater to host evening campfire gatherings.
