Oregon Convention Center Expansion hero image

Enlarging a Major Oregon Destination with No Disruption to Ongoing Programs

Oregon Convention Center Expansion

It was mandated for the Oregon Convention Center Expansion that construction not impact events and bookings. Hoffman provided sound, dust and safety barricades, and with the support of all subcontractors, sequenced the work for optimum productivity without disturbing any programs. The Convention Center experienced no loss of booked events or business during construction. Not a single show was delayed and nothing was damaged. All parking remained open, and parking revenues increased during this time.

After building the original structure, Hoffman returned to double the size of this major exhibit facility. Clear-span trusses, up to 240 feet long, add 105,000 SF of column-free exhibit space. The expansion covers 407,000 SF, not counting two levels of underground parking with 825 spaces. Excavation of 200,000 CY of material was performed at night to avoid impacting adjacent public traffic. During preconstruction, project team members collaborated for an extensive value engineering process resulting in $9.2 million in savings. The expansion is also a “green” project emphasizing sustainability and recycling.
