Fortifying a Portland Landmark and Building a Mixed‑Use Office Tower for the Pearl District

Brewery Blocks, Block 2

The historic Blitz-Weinhard Brewhouse is preserved and connected to its new neighbor, a 10-story office tower.

Block Two of the Brewery Block development integrates a NW Portland landmark, the historic Blitz-Weinhard Brewhouse. This mixed-use, ten-story office building is a unique and innovative 220,000 SF structure, housing shops, restaurants, and offices. Exposed steel and concrete, ten-foot-tall operable windows, and an array of new and existing materials were combined, creating a demanding palette with which to build. The new office tower is connected to the historic building via an elevator core and a “seismic bridge” which serves to brace the existing Brewhouse. Construction teams performed extensive brick restorations to preserve the Brewhouse’s 120-foot smokestack and exterior facade.
