Safety

Safety
Safety shapes everything we do at Hoffman. We focus on physical, mental, and psychological safety because protecting people means caring for the whole person.
The Foundation of Our Safety Culture
Safety at Hoffman rests on three pillars: physical safety, mental safety, and psychological safety. Each one matters. Physical safety keeps people protected on the job. Mental safety supports well-being in a demanding industry. Psychological safety creates space to speak up, ask questions, and raise concerns. Together, these pillars strengthen our teams and help everyone return home safe every day.
Get Us There Safe (GUTS)
Our Get Us There Safe campaign serves as a daily reminder to get everyone who touches our projects home safely. By instilling a deep, personal commitment to safety that reaches from management to craftworkers, we have achieved industry-leading safety performance.

The GUTS Commitment
For Hoffman, there’s no compromise, no workarounds, and no shortcuts when it comes to safety.
- We work diligently to set up procedures and safety plans that protect people. We invest in safety innovations, study safety incidents, and establish best practices to run our jobsites as safely as possible.
- We stop work on jobs and execute additional training when safety doesn’t meet our standards. We empower all staff to make the best decisions for a safe workplace.
- We appeal to craft workers to look out for their own safety as well as the safety of the men and women around them. We want everyone to get home safely to the dinner table, the dog park, or their kid’s basketball game.

The Anthem
Safety’s not just about me. It’s about we.
It’s about the person next to me,
And the person next to them.
Those above and those down below.
Safety isn’t easy. It takes guts.
But everything takes guts 12 stories up.
It’s how we redraw skylines, leave landmarks,
And make city blocks appear out of thin air.
It’s how we get to the next floor,
And the next phase, and the next project.
But most importantly, it’s how we get to the dinner table,
To the dog park, and to our kid’s basketball game.
There are no shortcuts. No workarounds. No compromise.
Just the courage to do what’s right and
Get us there safe.
Safety only works when everyone feels empowered to say something and do something. Our job as leaders is to set the tone, listen more than we talk, follow through on what we say, and show by example that every concern matters. When we take the small issues seriously and build real relationships with our crews, the information comes back to us and the whole team gets stronger.Jason Dunton Safety Director
Tough Enough to Talk
Mental well-being is a core part of safety. The work we do is demanding, and the pressure to stay strong can make it hard to talk about what we are dealing with. In construction, reaching out can be the difference between life and death. One in four construction workers struggles with mental health challenges, and suicide rates in our industry are five times higher than the national average.
Hoffman is working to change that. By making mental wellness a visible and essential part of our safety culture, we are helping lead the way for our industry.

Psychological Safety
Psychological safety is about creating job sites where every person feels heard and respected. At Hoffman, we work to build this by encouraging open communication, backing people up when they speak up, and supporting crews in raising concerns early. We train our teams to listen well, value different perspectives, and address issues without blame. Inclusive job sites strengthen trust, improve teamwork, and help prevent problems long before they become hazards.
At Hoffman we are taking an intentional approach to psychological safety by becoming strong enough to care for our people and the communities where we live and work. Psychological safety grows when we show up for each other, listen, and make care part of how we build.Mel Jones Director of Inclusion
