Project Story

An Unconventional Approach to Demolition

The first step in completing Oregon State University’s Reser Stadium was the demolition of the football stadium’s west side. The team determined that an implosion was the best approach for safety and project timeline.

The Hoffman team spent months preparing for the high-profile demolition, working closely with the Corvallis Fire Department, Corvallis Police Department, Benton County Sheriff’s Office, OSU Campus Police, bomb squad, and public utilities. A 500-foot perimeter was closed around the stadium while nearby buildings were emptied, roads closed, and people relocated. Numerous first responders were on hand for the early morning implosion which was a big success. Several students and Beaver fans of all ages were there to witness history. Immediately following the implosion, a demolition crew commenced clearing excess debris and separating materials for distribution to local scrap yards and recycling facilities.

Student Welcome Center

A new state-of-the-art, interactive Student Welcome Center will serve year-round as an on-campus first stop to introduce prospective new students and their families to Oregon State University.

The welcome center will be located within the southwest corner of Reser Stadium and also will serve game-day fans and other university visitors year-round by sharing examples of OSU’s extraordinary teaching, research and discovery, and community outreach that serves Oregon, the nation and the world. Additionally, the welcome center will offer conference and meeting facilities for use by faculty, staff and students.

Within the welcome center, prospective students and their families will receive an introduction to the many excellent undergraduate and graduate degree programs OSU offers. Multi-media and interactive displays will introduce visitors to OSU faculty, alumni and university stakeholders who have contributed to community progress, environmental stewardship, culture and economic prosperity since 1868. Campus tours for prospective students and their families will be conducted from the welcome center.

Wellness Clinic

A new campus wellness clinic will be located along the southeast side of Reser Stadium and serve as a campus hub to provide students, faculty, staff and community members with year-round access to expanded health care and wellness services.

The wellness clinic will continue and expand existing Corvallis campus student health services, and in collaboration with a Corvallis area community health care provider, provide primary clinical care and urgent care services within the wellness clinic.

The clinic is anticipated to be a four-story building of approximately 32,000 square feet. OSU and the health care partner will have shared spaces on the building’s first floor. The health care provider will lease the second floor, and OSU Student Health Services will occupy the third and fourth floors.

The university and community health care provider will explore offering educational and internship opportunities for students and collaborative research engagement opportunities involving OSU faculty and students, medical doctors and staff.
