Keeping University Recreation Moving During a Complicated Renovation

Intramural Activities (IMA) Building

This complicated renovation added a a four-level, 100,000-square-foot addition to the existing 200,000-square-foot Intramural Athletics Facility. Expanding and renovating while accommodating recreational and intramural sports activities made this campus project challenging.

Two basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, a fitness room, and an elevated running track are among the special features of the 95,000 SF expansion of an existing 141,000 SF facility. Renovation covered 30,000 SF, including the swimming pool area. Hoffman created a new sports field with artificial turf for rugby and soccer on top of a former landfill site. All work occurred in the middle of a campus serving over 25,000 undergraduates, putting a premium on project planning and coordination.
