Creating a New Hub for OSU's College of Engineering

Johnson Hall

This chemical, biological, and environmental engineering building is now the hub of OSU’s College of Engineering. The 3-story, 60,000 SF facility has state-of-the-art labs for research and teaching, faculty offices, and classroom space. It showcases the University’s high-tech testing capabilities needed to perform leading edge engineering and research. Hoffman worked collaboratively with the design team to develop and construct an on-budget project that fits within the physical and cultural context of the historic campus.

Project Story

Enhancing Interdisciplinary Research

Johnson Hall is equipped with flexible, 21st century instructional and research space, designed to encourage multidisciplinary interaction. The labs and teaching spaces support an emerging educational paradigm of practicum-based curricula. The College of Engineering has replaced large lecture courses and moved to an entirely studio-based core curriculum to better prepare their students for the multidisciplinary engineering workplaces of the future.
