Downtown Portland Gains Luxury Apartments, Offices, and Sustainability in a Striking Glass Tower

Twelve West

This 22-story tower, located at 12th and Washington, houses a wide mix of uses, from corporate offices to retail and housing. Hoffman executed the 60-foot, half-block excavation adjacent to a historic Portland landmark: Jake’s Crawfish House. Twelve West is clad in a glazed curtainwall with operable windows. Retail and lobby areas make up the ground-floor level, and levels two through six serve as the headquarters office space for ZGF Architects. Hoffman built out this office space, which showcases the firm’s technical and design skills, including a custom ‘floating’ staircase.

Above these offices is Indigo, a luxury apartment community that features over 250 apartment units with 24/7 concierge service, on-site personal training and fitness studio, housekeeping, room service delivery from local restaurants, and more. Twelve West is the first urban project in the region to include four roof-top wind turbines. The building achieved two LEED Platinum certifications: LEED-NC Platinum for the tower, and LEED-CI for ZGF’s offices. Hoffman also built a 400 SF data center with APC in rack cooling units connected to the building’s chilled water loop.
